The Sault Ste. Marie YMCA believes that good governance is not just about rules and regulations. Culture and ethical behaviour, rather than perfect policies and procedures, are the ultimate cornerstones of effective governance. The Association’s policies may specify what the Board wants to happen, but the culture of an organization determines what actually happens. 

The Sault Ste. Marie YMCA - Board of Directors is responsible for ensuring effective governance on behalf of all stakeholders. The Directors’ role in oversight and monitoring the culture, ethics, risk strategy and internal control framework is critical to the organization’s long-term success. The Association establishes a tone that a strong control environment is necessary and expected. Operating in an environment of solid internal controls and in a culture that demands ethical behaviour will better position the Sault Ste. Marie YMCA to realize it’s Mission , meet the expectations of stakeholders and preserve the public’s trust
